What are I-Tip Hair Extensions?

To continue our deep-dive into the hair extension methods we offer, in this post we'll be covering I-tip hair extensions. We've already covered hand-tied hair extensions and tape-in hair extensions, so make sure to read all our posts to help you determine the best hair extension variation for your hair. Let's dive into I-tip extensions!

How are I-Tip Hair Extensions Applied?

As the name suggests, I-tip hair extensions are small bundles of hair - known as strands - that have a pointy tip to them. Each strand of hair is applied to your natural hair using a bead that binds the I-tip to your natural hair. These beads are very small and flexible, making it easy to crimp the bead to securely bind the I-tip to your natural hair.

To apply the I-tip extension, Brandy will use a tool to thread the small bead onto a small section of your natural hair; the bead will rest at the base of your hair. The tip of the hair extension is then placed in the bead and the bead is clamped to secure the extension.

How Many I-Tip Hair Extensions Do I Need?

Each I-tip strand is about one gram of hair and each pack of hair contains 20 strands, so about 20 grams of hair. If you're looking to add length and volume to your hair, you will probably need around 160 strands of hair. If you're just concerned about volume, you can get away with as little as a single pack of hair.

Those interested in adding mermaid lengths will have rows and rows of extensions beaded to their natural hair. For those interested in volume only, there may only be one row, or strategically placed strands.

How Long Do I-Tip Hair Extensions Last?

As with most quality hair extensions, I-tip extensions need to be removed and reapplied about every three months. Because natural hair grows, if you leave extensions in without reapplication, the extensions will grow too far from the hair's base which can lead to matting.

If you've purchased high-quality, human hair - like the kind Brandy Marshall sources - your extension hair can last for a year, meaning the same hair can be continuously reapplied until it becomes damaged.

Are I-Tip Hair Extensions Expensive?

I-tip hair extensions are one of the pricier extension techniques because of their labor intensive installation process. However, depending on the look you're going for, the price can vary dramatically based on the amount of hair you're purchasing. For the most accurate quote, book a complimentary consultation with Brandy to discuss your hair needs and goals.
